FG sets fresh performance target for paramilitary agencies

The Federal Government has set a new performance benchmark for all chief executives of the four paramilitary agencies under the Federal Ministry of Interior.

Announcing the new benchmark following the 85 per cent rating it received in the performance assessment across federal ministries, Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, stated that anything short of 100 per cent performance over the next year falls below expectations.

He stated this at the conclusion of a three-day Performance Contracting retreat for the ministry and its parastatals on Saturday in Niger State.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo said that the “next time we hold this retreat, I want to say, as I said to you, go look at my grades.

“Yes, we hit 85 per cent already, let’s go for 100. We are agents of perfection, that’s who we are in the Ministry of Interior. Let’s go perfecting. Let’s go for 100,” he said.

He urged the paramilitary chiefs to reciprocate the goodwill of President Bola Tinubu and his support for ongoing reforms in the ministry by being agents of the renewed hope agenda.

The minister further assured that the President will continue to support initiatives that better Nigeria.

He noted improved performance in the service delivery of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), in the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), specifically the commitment of the mining marshal squad of the agency.

To the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Dr. Tunji-Ojo said, ” I can see a lot of reforms already within the correctional service. I mean, now, correctional service is becoming truly correctional and transformational, it’s becoming rehabilitatory, and of course, it’s becoming reformatory.”

He also observed that for every agency to excel in service delivery for a better performance rating, it must show dedication to service delivery.
