Empowering Women Key to National Progress – Oluremi Tinubu

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called for greater commitment to the empowerment of women and girls, describing it as a critical investment in Nigeria’s collective future.

In a message to commemorate the International Women’s Day marked annually on March 8, the First Lady joined millions of Nigerians and the global community in celebrating the strength, courage, resilience and achievements of women and girls across the country and around the world.

She noted that the 2026 theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls,” underscores the importance of ensuring equal opportunities and justice for women in all spheres of life.

According to her, empowering women should not be seen as charity but as a strategic investment that strengthens families, builds prosperous communities and promotes national development.

Tinubu emphasized that when women are given access to quality education, healthcare, economic opportunities, leadership platforms and justice, the entire nation benefits.

“When we give women access to education, healthcare, economic empowerment, leadership platforms, justice and equity, we gain stronger families, more prosperous communities, and a more inclusive nation,” she said.

The First Lady added that Nigeria’s growth and progress are closely tied to the advancement of women, stressing that “when women rise, Nigeria rises.”

She therefore congratulated women across Nigeria and the world on the occasion and reaffirmed the need for sustained action to promote the rights and welfare of women and girls.
