The Government of Ekiti State is set to disburse cash gifts to the state’s athletes who participated in the just-concluded National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

This gesture aims to motivate the athletes to achieve greater success in their respective sports.

Furthermore, the state government has initiated plans to establish the Ekiti State Sports Commission, which will promote comprehensive sports development in the state.

The bill outlining the framework for the State Sports Commission, which has been passed by the State House of Assembly, is scheduled to be signed into law by Governor Biodun Oyebanji in the coming weeks.

In addition to legislative reforms, the government, under the leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, is actively working in various areas to maximise the potential of young talent in sports and other fields.

The state government plans to inaugurate indoor games centers in the state in 2024 and embark on the renovation of the Oluyemi Kayode stadium in Ado Ekiti, as well as other stadiums in Ikere, Ijero, and Ikole.

It is worth noting that the state government is currently investigating the inadequate kitting of the state’s contingent during the Games’ opening ceremony, and it will ensure that those responsible for this issue are held accountable.

The Government of Ekiti State remains a model sub-national government, committed to creating an enabling environment and allocating resources to foster the growth and development of sports and young talent.
