Ekiti State Government has revealed that it is currently compiling data on students in public primary and secondary schools to enhance effective planning and informed decision-making.
Dr. Bimpe Aderiye, the State Commissioner for Education, made this known during her appearance on last week’s edition of the bilingual radio programme, “Ekiti Today/Ekiti L’oni,” which airs on Thursdays.
Dr Aderiye reiterated the government’s commitment to providing “accessible, affordable, and functional education using modern technology to ensure that no one is left behind.” She highlighted the four key components the government employs to achieve its educational goals: enrolment, retention, transition, and completion. Stressing that education is compulsory up to senior secondary school level, she underscored that enrolling school-age children is not optional in the state.
The Commissioner further emphasised the government’s focus on preventing students from dropping out of school prematurely, regardless of their background or financial situation.
In addition to free education, she pointed out that indigent and vulnerable students benefit from a conditional cash transfer program aimed at ensuring that every child has the opportunity for formal education.
Addressing rumours of mass failure in placement examinations, Dr Aderiye described such claims as a misconception.
She noted that the pass rate was 97.43% for students in public primary schools and 97.28% for those in private schools across Ekiti State.
She urged parents and guardians to be flexible in their choice of schools for their children, assuring them that no school in the state has been left behind in terms of rehabilitation, facility upgrades, and personnel training.
According to her, these improvements have raised the standard of education, even in schools that were previously less regarded.
Additionally, Dr Aderiye encouraged parents to take an active role in monitoring their children’s homework to support the efforts of teachers.
She noted that home training should not be overlooked, as schools build on the foundation laid by parents.
