…as LOC threatens to shut down NSF
Judo player, David Joseph Ouwadamilare has won the first gold medal for Team Oyo at the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival (NSF) tagged “Edo 2020” on Wednesday, after winning 100+kG Judo game in Benin City.
Team Oyo has continued to make sterling appearances and performances in their respective sporting activities.
According to our source, “It’s medal rain for the Pacesetter State on day 6 of the Nigerian Olympics”.
Adejoke Durogbade opened the floor in the early hours of today by winning her second medal in Edo when she won bronze in Cycling 200m sprint female.
Olayode Hauwawu followed suit by winning the state’s first silver medal at the event in the 67kg Taekwando.
Edward Shinyi picked up from where the two stopped as he won silver medal in the individual Kata men (Karate). Eweje Adeleye also won bronze medal in male Nandao Taolu in Kungfu event.
Oyo state female Cycling team won bronze for the state in the team event, on Thursday.
This will be the fourth bronze medal Cycling will be contributing to team Oyo at the games.
Earlier, Durogbade Adejoke (2 bronze) and Tawakalt Yekeen (1 bronze) had won medals before today.
Meanwhile, in darts, Saheed Adeyemi fell short of winning a gold medal when he lost in the final of men’s single dart 701 thereby settling for a silver medal.
It’s Oyo third silver medal at the games after Olayode Hauwawu (Taekwando) and Edward Shinyi (Karate) have previously won silver yesterday.
With this development Oyo State now has 22 medals in total. One Gold medal, three Silver medals and 18 Bronze medals.
In a related news, the Chairman, Local Organizing Committee and Deputy Governor of Edo State, Phillip Shuaibu has maintained that the 2020 National Sports Festival will be shut down by Noon Tomorrow (Friday) if commitment is not gotten from the Federal Government on release of funds.
He made this known at a News Briefing at the Media Center for the Games at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
Mr. Shuaibu maintained that the Main Organising Committee Secretariat will be shut down by Noon today (Thursday) owing to the situation.
He explained that the move was because Edo State is cash strapped as it could no longer meet its obligation to vendors such as caterers and others for the Games.
