DHQ Mourns Ex-Military Spokesman Rabe Abubakar

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who reportedly died while in captivity after being abducted by suspected criminals.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the retired senior officer and extended condolences to his family, colleagues, and Nigerians at large.

According to the military, Maj. Gen. Abubakar served the nation with distinction in several capacities during his career, including as spokesman for various military formations and as Director of Defence Information, where he served as the spokesperson for the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The statement noted that the late officer made significant contributions to counter-insurgency operations, the professional development of the military, and other national assignments, describing his commitment to duty and national unity as exemplary.

The Defence Headquarters explained that it had refrained from making public comments about his abduction while efforts were ongoing to secure his release, adding that all available operational resources were deployed in the rescue mission.

Describing his death as a painful loss, the military said the incident has further strengthened its determination to combat terrorism, kidnapping, and other security threats across the country.

“In response to the series of unfortunate abductions across Nigeria, including that of Maj. Gen. Abubakar, ongoing operations have since been intensified to bring the perpetrators to justice and dismantle all terrorist networks threatening our nation,” the statement said.

The Armed Forces reassured Nigerians of its commitment to defending the country’s sovereignty and protecting citizens, pledging not to relent until peace and security are fully restored and those responsible for terrorist activities are held accountable.

Maj. Gen. Abubakar was widely respected within military circles for his years of service and dedication to national security. His death has drawn condolences from across the country.
