Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission has lamented failure of the government to create policies that would engage children towards nation building.

It said government prioritised adults but neglected youths.

Speaking in Ibadan at a programme organised by Yoruba Academy, in collaboration with DAWN Commission, tagged: “A better future for everyone”, the Director General of the commission, Seye Ogunleye, said government had neglected children, forgetting that those neglected might become bandits, kidnappers and terrorists if care was not taken.

He, however, urged children to contribute their quota towards solving the country’s challenges, noting that although Nigeria might not be a nation of their dream at the moment, the situation was not as hopeless as they thought.

“Everyone needs to participate to make Nigeria conducive to live. There will be no place to run to if other citizens don’t make their country worthy to live. Nigeria will be far better if youths are engaged rightly,” Ogunleye said.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Robotic and Artificial Intelligence Nigeria (RAIN), Dr. Olusola Anjola, said everyone must be part of solution to Nigeria’s problems, adding that children had ideas but were not allowed to build the ideas.

He urged youths to have digital skills in whatever they did, noting that technology had been liberalised.
