‘Children Are Paying the Highest Price,’ Says Aid Worker as Famine Hits Gaza City

A UN-backed food security organization reports that Gaza City and its surrounding areas are experiencing confirmed famine conditions for the first time.

According to an aid worker living in Gaza City with her two sons, children are “bearing the greatest burden of this conflict” as she observes widespread malnutrition.

The IPC reports that over 500,000 individuals in the Strip are at risk of “starvation, destitution and death,” with expectations that these “catastrophic conditions” will extend to other regions next month.

Israel’s foreign ministry disputes the report, stating that “there is no famine in Gaza.”

UN Chief António Guterres describes the crisis as a “failure of humanity itself” and urges for unrestricted humanitarian access to Gaza.

“They skip breakfast and experience dizziness from hunger,” explains a Palestinian aid worker about the children attending her improvised school.

Israel restricts international news organizations, such as the BBC, from freely entering Gaza to report.
