Archbishop Ibezim tasks politicians on accountability, blesses Ikezue’s aspiration

The Archbishop of the Province on the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Anglican Communion, His Grace, Most Reverend Dr Alex Ibezim, has tasked politicians, including Labour Party (LP) Chieftain, Venerable Tochukwuu Sagacious Ikezue, on the need to prioritise the welfare of the masses and account if stewardship while in office.

Archbishop Ibezim made this charge over the weekend, when the Venerable Ikezue, a Labour  Party Anambra Central Senatorial District aspirant in the forthcoming  National Assembly, visited him in his residence in Awka, Anambra State capital, as part of efforts to seek spiritual guidance and support for his political ambition.

The visit forms part of Ikezue’s ongoing consultations with key stakeholders ahead of the Senatorial race and also underscores the intersection of faith, leadership, and governance. It saw both men reflect on the need for purposeful and people-oriented representation.

The Archbishop expressed worry about the trend of political leaders abandoning their promises to the electorate and focusing on their personal wants. themselves.

Archbishop Ibezim commended Ikezue for his courage and sense of responsibility in aspiring to serve the people of Anambra Central at a critical time in the nation’s political landscape.

According to him, the decision by Venerable Ikezue to seek public office requires commitment to integrity and selfless service.
He urged the aspirant to remain steadfast, principled and focused on the welfare of the people, stressing that leadership must be anchored on the fear of God and accountability.

In a show of support, Archbishop Ibezim assured Venerable  Ikezue of his prayers and moral backing, expressing optimism that his aspiration will translate into impactful representation and sustainable development for the district.

In his response, Ikezue, an excited clergyman-turned-politician, thanked Archbishop Ibezim for the warm reception, prayers, and encouragement, noting that spiritual guidance remains vital in the pursuit of leadership that prioritises the common good.

Ikezue reiterated his commitment to offering quality representation and driving meaningful development across communities in Anambra Central, if given the mandate.
