AAC Guber Aspirant Blames Rising Insecurity on APC, PDP, APM, Seeks Support

A governorship aspirant of the African Action Congress (AAC) in Oyo State, Daniel Popoola, has blamed the worsening security situation in parts of the state on what he described as the failure of successive administrations led by the APC, PDP and APM to protect lives and property. In a statement issued on Thursday, Popoola expressed concern over the growing cases of kidnappings in Orire Local Government Area, saying residents now live in constant fear as kidnappers allegedly operate freely on highways, farms and in rural communities. According to him, farmers have abandoned their farms, traders are reluctant to travel after dusk, while many families are forced to sell their belongings to raise ransom payments for abducted relatives. The AAC chieftain criticised the security responses of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, alleging that government efforts have been inadequate and disconnected from the realities faced by residents. Popoola also accused the state's security outfit, Amotekun, of being diverted from its primary responsibility of protecting rural communities, alleging that its personnel were being deployed for the protection of political elites instead of tackling insecurity in forests and villages. He urged residents of Oyo State to support the African Action Congress in future elections, arguing that the party would prioritise security by strengthening Amotekun, supporting local vigilantes and hunters, and securing villages, farms and highways. The governorship hopeful maintained that restoring security would be the top priority of an AAC-led administration, insisting that no resident should continue to live under the threat of kidnapping.
