Wife of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde has said no fewer than 250,000 people benefited from the free health mission, organized by Oyo State Government in conjunction with Omituntun for life foundation crew.
Mrs. Makinde stated this during the closing ceremony of Omituntun Free Medical Mission, held at Adeoyo Ring Road Hospital, Ibadan, a programme that took place simultaneously in all the 33 local government areas of the Oyo State.
She further said this is part of the efforts of her office to promote healthcare service delivery and social-economic development in the State,
The first lady noted that the free health mission project, spanned 23 days, with the target of the common people who have health.
She explained that over 250,000 people benefited from the programme, where they were treated on ailments like hernia, surgical operations for appendicitis and other ailments as well as child delivery.
Other areas that the free health mission covered are free eye tests with the distribution of free glasses, free cataract surgery, free dental services, HIV testing.
Engr. (Mrs) Makinde commended the present administration under the leadership of the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for the support he has given to the initiative.
She also lauded other partners for their tireless hard work towards the success of the programme.
In his goodwill message, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Bashir Bello appreciated the efforts of the first lady towards delivering free healthcare services to the people of the State.
He also gave kudos to the officials of Omituntun For Life Foundation and all health personnel, drawn from several hospitals, who played vital roles towards the success of the programme.
Also, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja Faosat Sanni urged women in the State to cooperate with the present administration to continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy.
She stressed that Oyo State Government was trying to make sure life is less burdensome to the citizens and women will not be left behind in the governance and policy of this government.
The Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Olufunmilayo Orisadeyi said since inception of the present administration, Oyo State has started experiencing a lot of developmental programmes and economic growth in terms of health care delivery, welfarism, and modern infrastructural.
She enjoined people in the State to use the opportunity and come out en-mass to benefit from the free health mission.
While contributing, the Chairman, Oyo State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Gbola Adetunji said the commitment of Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has made a lot of changes in healthcare delivery in the State since 2019, as the government has developed a radiodiagnosis unit, a special X-ray for scanning and installation of other radio imaging unit appliances.
Dr. Gbola said Engr. Seyi Makinde has a vision in transforming Adeoyo Ring Road Hospital and bring back its glory as it used to be one of the best medical Institutions hospitals with over forty consultants in the olden days.
