Elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State on Monday vowed to mobilise the electorate across the state to deliver 1.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

While disclosing this during a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure, the state capital, the elders under the aegis of the APC Elders Movement stated that issues that could impede a landslide victory will be prevented as the party’s structure is unified, as well as internal divisions.

With the meeting bringing together party stalwarts in the state, the elders emphasised a coordinated, top-down approach to voter mobilisation and registration to achieve success at the 2027 polls.

According to the State’s APC Elders Movement Chairman, Nimbe Farunkanmi, an octogenarian, the movement represents a coalition of the party’s elders speaking with one voice, and he added that plans have been outlined to replicate the meeting at the local government, ward, and unit levels to ensure grassroots support for Tinubu’s re-election.

Jamiu Ekungba, one of the APC elders in the state, who also spoke at the meeting, said, “The essence of this meeting is to bring everybody together so that mobilisation for registration will be by commitment of the elders and everybody. We’re going to mobilise people to come out and vote in a way they have never voted before.
“You know, in the last election, we tried it, and we were able to achieve it because for the governor to win 366,000 votes was unusual. So we are going to deliver 1.5 million votes to Tinubu, and it is possible because the currently registered voters in the state number 1.9 million.
“The problem is that people don’t come out to vote. So, what the elders want to do now is persuade everybody to come out and vote, and we’re going to vote massively for Tinubu in such a way that those states have never voted before.
“We are going to call those people who supervised the election, who witnessed the election, to be in those states. So that when we return that figure, nobody can say something happened because it will be based on real votes.
“We’re going to ask our children wherever they are to come back home and vote, and we’re going to mobilise everybody from the farms, shops, and markets to vote, and the vote is going to be massive.”

Speaking in the same vein, a federal commissioner, National Population Commission, and wife of the late deputy governor of the state, Olukemi Iyantan, said, “We are focusing on the achievement and the victory at the poll in 2027 for the re-election of our president, Bola Tinubu.
“The issue is the unity of purpose, how we can form a unified force, especially the creation of the Elders Forum. So, whatever the elders do, consult them for knowledge and wisdom; it will help us reach our destination, unlike before, when we didn’t even have leaders. That’s why you see the party in shambles.
“But now that we have leaders and the elders that are committed to the cause of 2027, the re-election of our president, you know that we can go higher and go everywhere so that we can achieve our aim because we know at every point in time, when you have troubles, we have where we can run to for consultation and for wisdom, which can help us.”
