A former Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu has assured Oyo State residents of Governor Seyi Makinde’s victory in the 2023 general elections.

Sunmonu made the submission in Ibadan on Sunday during a Post Ramadan lecture organised by Pensioners FM, tagged “Making Old Age Sweet: Islamic Directive”.

Senator Sunmonu, a former lawmaker who equally represented Oyo Central District at the National Assembly said Governor Seyi Makinde has managed to build his love in the heart of Pensioners by clearing their arrears, both in gratuity and in pensions.

“We all have them in our different homes and we know that pensioners appreciate the present government”, she said.

Speaking on the coalition that brought Makinde into government in 2019, Sen. Sunmonu said the Governor’s formidable leadership was a sure guarantee of victory for the People’s Democratic Party in the elections.

Sunmonu said Governor Makinde is a candidate of integrity, whom Nigerians, especially Pensioners are proud of.

She underpinned the massive followership that the Governor and his party is enjoying to his style of leadership, describing it as one of the main weapons the Governor has used in endearing himself to the populace.

Speaking earlier, the guest lecturer, Dr. Kolapo Olalekan commended the governor for paying special attention to the plight of pensioners.

He noted that it is commendable that while the state government paid salaries of workers in the core civil service, he also took care of pensions and gratuities of the retirees.

The Islamic cleric appreciated the cordial relationship between the present Government and its workforce, describing it as a labour-friendly and sensitive government.

Meanwhile, the cleric described the killing of a second-year student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Deborah Samuel, over an allegation of blasphemy as deeply disturbing.

He noted that the Sultan of Sokoto condemning the incident, alluded to the fact that the killing was unjust.

Speaking earlier, the Managing Director and the General Manager, Pensioners FM, Dr. Olusegun Abatan and Dr. Babatunde Tiamiyu, respectively said the lecture was organised so as to inaundate the aged in the society on necessary steps to take, so as to enjoy their old age.

The event was graced by the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, the Sabiganna of Iganna, Oba Saliu Oyemola Azeez among other dignitaries.
