The inauguration of the 10th National Assembly (NASS) has been scheduled to take place at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja on Tuesday, 13 June, 2023, according to a communique.
“Following the Proclamation by the President, Commander-In- Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Assembly wishes to inform all Distinguished Senators-Elect and Honourable House of Representatives Members-Elect that the Inauguration of the 10 National Assembly is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, 13 June at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja from 10:00am prompt.”
Distinguished Senators-Elect and Honourable House of Representatives Members-Elect are required to come along with their Code of Conduct Clearance, Certificates of Return and valid I.D cards for Registration at 10.am on Monday, 12th June at the House of Representatives Conference Room 301 and Senate Conference Room 231 respectively.
According to the press release, due to the ongoing renovation of the two NASS Chambers, Senators-Elect and Honourable House of Representatives Members-Elect are to come along with only one guest for the ceremony who will be seated at the Arcade.
The press release signed by the Clerk to the NASS, Sani Magaji Tambawal also stated categorically that only Senators-Elect and House of Representatives Members-Elect shall be given access to the Chambers.
Meanwhile, thirteen out of fourteen House of Representatives’ members, the lower chamber of the NASS, from Oyo State on Sunday afternoon endorsed Tajudeen Abbas and Benjamin Kalu, for positions of speaker and deputy speaker respectively.
OYO NEWS learnt that this is coming less than 72 hours to the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly.
At the meeting of the southwest caucus of thr NASS, held at the Anambra hall of Transcorp hotel and moderated by Akeem Adeyemi, who is resuming for third term as the member representing AFIJIO/Atiba/Oyo East/Oyo West federal constituency, only one lawmaker, Musliudeen Akinremi (Ibadan North) did not sign the endorsement list.
Jagaban, as Akinremi is popularly called, is returning for a second term on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, who is representing Oluyole federal constituency, joined the 12 other APC members, and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to make it 13 lawmakers who are supporting the duo.
Likewise Sixty eight out of the 71 house of representatives’ members from the southwest’s 6 states endorsed Tajudeen Abbas and Benjamin Kalu, for positions of speaker and deputy speaker respectively.
Speaking at the event, which was well-attended, all the 9 reps from Osun, all members of the PDP, endorsed Abbas/Kalu ticket.
Lagos 22 out of 24; 6 out of 6 from Ekiti; 9 out of 9 from Ondo; 9 out of 9 from Ogun.
Adeyemi, who is the son of the departed Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, Alaafin of Oyo, while thanking his colleagues, said that he was proud that the southwest, being the home of the incumbent president, has spoken with one voice with their action.
He added that the region, by the decision of the lawmakers, is ready for all round development that has eluded it for long, adding that the people would enjoy the dividends of democracy therein.
